WA: British tourist fifth to die from water incidents in WA

A British tourist has died in a Perth hospital after being pulled from the surf at
a popular beach, becoming the fifth person this week to drown or die after swimming incidents
in Western Australia.

The 54-year-old woman, from Manchester, died at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital yesterday
after lifesavers were unable to revive her following an incident at Trigg Beach on Sunday.

Surf Life Saving WA says the woman had been swimming with friends when she got into
trouble in a dangerous non-patrolled area known locally as The Blue Hole.

Meanwhile, a 69-year-old Geraldton woman drowned at Geraldton in Western Australia's
Mid West region yesterday.

MARGARET ELIZABETH COFFEY'S naked body was found on St Georges Beach and police say
it's believed she got into difficulties while swimming alone.

It follows the drowning of an 11-month-old baby in a backyard swimming pool on Monday
and the deaths of two schoolboys after separate incidents involving school and public
pools.

The schoolboy incidents - involved an 11-year-old who died yesterday in hospital after
being dragged unconscious from a public pool on Monday, and 12-year-old RASHID HUSSEIN
who died on Saturday after being pulled unconscious from a high school pool on Wednesday.
